Mulberry Rattery

Mulberry Muddy Waters & Mulberry Brownie
Rats are delightful, interactive pets and companions, big personalities in small bodies. Sadly they are not long lived creatures. Currently there are very few fancy rats living to 3 or more years, with the majority living for 24 - 30 months only. In 2009 I began breeding to keep the genes of much loved and cherished friends, and it is heartwarming to see traits and expressions of loved rats returning in their descendants.
I hope to breed healthy, show standard rats with engaging, friendly natures- lovely pets who do well on the show bench.
I occasionally have rat littens available for new homes with responsible pet owners or breeders who share my ethics.
I am currently breeding topaz rats, with golden orange coats, some of which are rex (curly coated) and agouti which is an associated colour. I am also breeding Berkshires, specifically blazed Berkshires (known as badgers) These are two colour 'marked' rats, mostly black and white, although some are agouti and white, with the possibility of other colours in the future. All the rats are 'top eared' ; I am not breeding 'dumbo eared' rats.
My rats are first and foremost pets. I would therefore not cull my rats and I keep all adult rats until the end of their natural lives. I would like to breed rats that are recognised by other rat fanciers as good examples of their variety and therefore I show my rats occasionally. I am studying genetics through rat breeding and hope to be able to combine both interests.
Mulberry Rattery is based on the Suffolk / Essex / Cambridgeshire border of East Anglia.
I am a committee member of the NFRS (National Fancy Rat Society) and the rattery is registered with the society.
In July 2013 I was awarded NFRS Stud status after winning reserve Best In Show with Mulberry Hurdle, Best Opposite Age with Mulberry Mojo and Reserve Best In Show with Mulberry Ben (in a show where another of my rats, Halcyon Lotus Blossom won Best In Show)
